Following up on previous collaborations with artists such as Scott Campbell and Curtis Kulig, CLOT aims to introduce and further educate people on one of the most iconic artists in contemporary art, Jean- Michel Basquiat.
In collaboration with the Basquiat Estate, Hong Kong based CLOT is proud to present CLOT Thesis Vol. 1: CLOT x Basquiat Artist Capsule. Through iconic CLOT silhouettes, the collection will feature a range of garments that focus on the artwork of Jean-Michel Basquiat. Edison Chen, CLOT’s creative director, has hand-picked Basquiat pieces and fonts that will be displayed on t-shirts, button-ups and polo shirts, as well as exclusive rugs.
The 80’s and New York movements are heavily represented in Jean-Michel Basquiat’s artwork. His renowned representations of these movements have heavily influenced street culture, thus catching the attention of Edison Chen.
“Basquiat’s work is very theme-oriented and you get a special feeling when you see his work. I went to a retrospective gallery in France about 2 years ago and it was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had.” – Edison Chen.
For the first drop, CLOT chose to portray Basquiat’s artwork through a unique collection of tees. The statements and fonts selected as part of the artist capsule were hand-selected from numerous Basquiat pieces.
